Earlier in April, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Kabul, the government imposed restrictions and closed some unnecessary government and non-governmental institutions and educational centers, and suspended activities of hotels and restaurants.

However, following the decrease in number of positive cases of coronavirus in the country about a month and a half ago, hotels, restaurants, sightseeing parks and swimming pools were allowed to resume operation while practicing the guidelines offered by the Ministry of Public Health.

Kazim, a resident of Kabul city, criticized hotels’ owners over lack of hygiene measures, saying they only think about their pocket and are unconcerned about people’s lives.

He said, “If health guidelines are not followed and wedding hotels continue to operate in the same way, we will see a second peak of the virus..may be more dangerous than the first.”

Hamid, another resident of Kabul city, told Pajhwok Afghan News he attended a friend’s wedding and saw more than 1000 individuals gathering in a single hall.

He expressed his deep concern over lack of social distancing, the use of masks and gloves by guests. “They do not follow any kind of health advice inside the hotel.”

A number of other residents held similar views and urged the authorities concerned to practice MoPH guidelines to prevent the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic across the country.

Nadar Qarghae, the wedding hotels association head, told Pajhwok that the owners of all wedding hotels had promised to follow heath guidelines in this regard.

He added they practiced social distancing, used masks and gloves during work and observed hygiene in the kitchen, used hand sanitizer at the hotel entrance door among the recommendations.

He said the mentioned measures were red line of the emergency committee and should be practiced.

Meanwhile, Nisar Mehri, Kabul Governor’s spokesman, said that the supervisory board of the emergency committee daily monitored health guidelines in wedding hotels and restaurants.

According the MoPH information, so far 37,162 people have been infected with the Covid-19 and 1328 died while 26,228 others recovered from the pandemic across the country.
