Nuristanis welcome peace talks, demand truce

PAROON (Pajhwok): Residents of eastern Nuristan province during a gathering on Wednesday welcomed the ongoing peace negotiations in Qatar and called for truce and lasting peace in Afghanistan.

They said the ongoing conflict has left women widowed and chidren orphaned in every home and has faced Afghanistan with multiple problems.

The gathering in Paroon, the provincial capital, hoped the ongoing intra-Afghan talks in Qatari capital Doha city would yield a positive outcome.

Religious scholar Maulvi Mohammad Hanif told the gathering that peace was a divine order so now the Afghans have a golden chance to take advantage of the Doha talks.

Eng. Sayedullah Paindazoi, the Provincial Council chairman, urged the Afghan government and the Taliban to announce truce for reaching lasting peace in Afghanistan.

Reta Ali, women affairs director, said mostly women bore the brunt of the ongoing war which had created many hurdles for women’s education across the country.

A number of other residents held similar views and urged the warring parties to declare ceasefire to bring the ongoing conflict to an end.

Governor Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Malakzai said the government had always tried to end the war in the country via dialogue to reach a lasting peace, thus released thousands of prisoners from jails across the country.

Addressing the people, Malakzai said peace was the prime demand of Afghans were tired of the ongoing conflict.
