<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a> (Pajhwok): The United States has topped nine million coronavirus cases, smashing its own record for daily new infections.</p>
<p>A tally from Johns Hopkins University shows the infections in the US has soared to 9,034,295 cases, AFP reported, citing a real-time count by the Baltimore-based school.</p>
<p>A day earlier, the US set a record for new daily infections of more than 94,000 in 24 hours, shattering Thursday’s record of 91,000.</p>
<p>As hospitals are once again filling up, the American healthcare system has come under strain.</p>
<p>Italy, meanwhile, has reported 31,084 new infections over the past 24 hours, the <a href="/en/health" class="glossify-link">health</a> ministry in Rome said. It is highest daily tally since the start of the crisis.</p>
<p>The ministry also reported 199 Covid-related deaths, compared with 217 the day before.</p>
