Bid to smuggle cubs thwarted at Torkham

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): An attempt to smuggle two black bear cubs from Afghanistan into Pakistan has been frustrated at the Torkham crossing.

The cubs were recovered and shifted to the Peshawar Zoo in the early hours of Sunday after consultation with the provincial wildlife department, Customs officials said.

Both cubs were hidden in a sack and found during the checking of pedestrians. The animals are said to be in stable condition.
