Snowfall closes Salang highway for heavy traffic

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Salang highway, linking Kabul with northern provinces of the country has been closed for heavy traffic. as a result windstorms and snowfall, an official said on Sunday.

The highway maintenance commander told Pajhwok Afghan News the key route was closed for cargo trucks due to heavy snowfall on Saturday night.

Samiullah Rahimi said, the highway had been shut to protect the lives of passengers, who should not travel this route until the highway condition became satisfactory.

Salang is one of the snow-covered areas of the country and the Kabul-North highway passes through this route.

The highway is temporarily closed every year winter due to snowfall, avalanches and windstorms. .
