KABUL (Pajhwok): A media protection organisation on Saturday hit out at the Ghor government for failing to provide security for a journalist who was shot dead a day earlier.
Bismillah Adil Aimaq was gunned down in a village close to Ferozkoh, the provincial capital, by unidentified motorcyclists.
In a sees of tweets, the Afghanistan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) said it had asked the Ghor administration over and over again to help protect Aimaq’s life.
“AJSC condemns the indifference of the local government towards repeated requests from its local representative and Aimaq for his safety,” the committee said.
Given threats against journalists and their killings, protection of media workers must be given priority, AJSC stressed.
“In November 2020, attackers shot and threw a grenade at Aimaq’s house,” AJSC recalled, blaming local officials’ unconcern for the journalist’s security.
Aimaq, editor-in-chief of Radio Sada-i-Ghor and civil society activist, had escaped unhurt in two attacks in as many years.
