MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Eight government soldiers suffered casualties and four civilians were wounded in a car bombing in this capital city of central Maidan Wardak province on Wednesday, but the Taliban put the soldiers’ death toll at 15.
Col. Mohammad Mustafa Mayar, police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban exploded a car bomb against a check-post in the provincial capital and waged a gun attack on Wednesday night.
He said after the car bombing which took place at around 1am, fighting between government forces and Taliban continued until around 4am this morning.
He said one government soldier was killed, seven others were injured and the post was destroyed.
Dr. Mohammad Salem Asgharkhel, head of the provincial public health department, said four people, including a woman and a man, had been brought to the hospital. He said the wounded were in stable condition.
EhsanStanekzai, a resident, said the blast was heavy and shattered windows of nearby houses.
He said he had no information about casualties, but the post had been completely destroyed.
Taliban spokesmen have not yet commented on the incident, but a local Taliban commander, speaking on condition of anonymity, said 15 security personnel had been killed in the car bombing and six others were captured alive.
