PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Putting a freeze on its accounts could create a grave humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, warns Pakistan’s interior minister.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed hoped the Taliban would honour their pledge of preventing terrorist groups like Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Daesh from using their land against any country.
At a press briefing in Karachi on Sunday, he asked Indian media outlets to realise that Pakistan was interested in peace and stability in Afghanistan.
“We facilitated Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar’s meeting with Americans for the cause of peace,” the interior minister claimed.
Ahmad explained there was no refugee camp in the country and the Afghans who entered Pakistan illegally had been sent back to their homeland.
In response to a query, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan, who desired peace in the region, was in contact with China and Russia on the situation in Afghanistan.
Khan is scheduled to meet Chinese and Russian leaders on Sept 17. He could also meet the Iranian president, the minister indicated.
