95m afs seized from KPF forces handed over to DAB

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Pajhwok Afghan News findings show when southeastern Khost province fell, KPF forces wanted to transfer 95 million afghanis and nearly one million US dollars to Kabul but they were captured by the Taliban.

According to reports, the money fell into the hand of Taliban on August 15, when the forces of Islamic Emirate entered the province.

Khost Governor Maulvi Mohammad Nabi Omari also confirmed to Pajhwok that the cash had been obtained by their forces.

He said the money, including 95 million afghanis and $683,000, had been seized from Afghan special forces or KPF in the Dumanda district of the province.

Omari said the KPF forces wanted to take the money with them to Kabul, but were not allowed to do so. The Taliban seized the cash along with weapons and ammunition.

He said all the cash had been handed over to Da Afghanistan Bank main office on September 26.

Pajhwok tried to contact KPF official or any other official of the former government, but failed.

Maulvi Sayed Mansoor Saqib, head of DAB branch in Khost, also confirmed to Pajhwok that the cash had been handed over to the central bank.

Meanwhile, DAB two days ago in a statement confirmed the handover of cash seized in Khost, Logar and Panjsher province.

The statement said the money was $1.6 million and more than 75 million afghanis.

Earlier, a source in DAB said that the Taliban had received $12.3 million from the residences of former high-ranking officials and handed it over to the bank.

A source close to the bank told Pajhwok that more than $12,368,000 and some gold had been recovered from the residences of senior officials of the previous government.

The source added that $6.4 million and 17 gold bricks were recovered from the house of former first vice-president Amrullah Saleh.
