Surge in essential items prices worrying: Alkozai

KABUL (Pajhwok): Assistant Head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries has expressed concern over surge in the price of essential commodities and pledged efforts were underway to improve the economic situation.

Today (Friday) the wholesale price of 49-kilogram of Kazak flour accounted for 2,200 afs, 49-kilogram bag of Pakistani Sela rice 2,200 afs, the same quantity of Indian rice 2,850 and 16-litres of Malaysian cooking oil 2,300afs.

In addition, one litre diesel accounted for 56 afs, one litre petrol accounted for 68 afs and one kilogram of gas accounted for 80 afs.

During an exclusive chat with Pajhwok Afghan News, Alkozai said after regime change there was a mess that affected everything including the country’s economic situation.

Freezing of Afghanistan cash reserve, halt of international community assistance, decline in export and import, unstable banking system and an overall political and cultural instability.

He said surge in the price of essential item was worrying because poor people are unable to purchase them.

“Commerce situation deteriorated with each passing day. We have talked to commerce and finance ministry officials, we hope there would be a solution to the problem,” he said.

Alkozai said talks with different officials has been held to resolve the problem and put business activities back on the track.
