JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Association of Visually Impaired People in eastern Nangarhar province has asked the government to pay care to the rights of people with disabilities, particularly the blind.
They say that the number of people with disabilities has increased during the past four decades of conflicts in the country and the previous government had paid attention to their rights and the new administration should also take care of their rights.
A statement from the association received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that they discussed the rights of disabled people during a meeting today.
The meeting talked about the problems of sightless people and finding solutions to them, the source added.
Economic problems also affected visually impaired people and many of them would be forced to begging if they are ignored, the statement said.
The statement asked Taliban officials to pay special attention to the rights of people with disabilities, particularly sightless people the same as the previous government was taking care of them.
The new administration should provide all rights of people with blindness and also provide them with job opportunities, the statement said.
Association of Visually Impaired People in Nangarhar said that around 1,000 people with vision disability were registered with them and the real number may be higher.
