KABUL (Pajhwok): Wall paintings to attract economic support for disabled persons has been allowed and kicked off in Shiberghan City, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, Disabled Persons Association Head Zikrullah Mazlomyar said on Sunday.
After the regime change on August 15, the Taliban banned wall paintings, but to support disabled persons, the practice is allowed by authorities.
According to Mazlomyar, the wall painting scheme is kicked off with financial support of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan and it would promote positive message.
“Our purpose is to earn respect for disabled and advocate for their economic well-being through wall painting in this critical situation,” he added.
“Disabled persons are going through difficult situation in Shiberghan, we want to work for their well-being by involving other persons in society and earn a huge reward.”
Abdul MatinSadeed, a civil society activist, said some people in society used harsh language against disabled persons and mocked their disability.
Sakhidad, a disabled person who lost his leg in the past 20 years of war, said: “We are persons who sacrificed their parts of bodies for the safety and security of other people. This is unfair that some people mock our disability and use different names for us.”
He said listening disgracing words from public badly affected the psychological condition of disabled persons.
