Murders 96 percent down in Parwan: Police chief

CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): Parwan police chief says the incidents of murders have decreased by 96 percent in the central province in the last three months, compared to the previous three months.

In interviews with Pajhwok Afghan News some residents said they were happy over the reduction in crimes in the province.

They say many crimes particularly murders would take place in the previous government due to the presence of illegal gunmen who enjoyed support of government officials.

Parwan police chief Mualvi Abdul Qadir Haqqani said recorded statistics show that more than 200 people had been killed in criminal cases in Parwan in the last three months of the previous government.

But he added that in the last three months and since the formation of the new government, eight people have been killed in criminal incidents in the province.

He said security forces had arrested three people in connection with the killings in the past three months, and that other suspects in the killings were being chased by security forces.

Haqqani emphasized that the security forces would continue their efforts in order to improve the security situation and protect the lives and property of the people.

Parwan residents expressed satisfaction with the reduction in murders.

Firdous Ahmadi, a resident of the ninth district of the first urban security district of Charikar, the capital of Parwan province, said murders in the province had decreased significantly compared to the past.

In the previous government, people witnessed two to four murders per day in Parwan.

He expressed satisfaction over the improved security situation in the province, adding that irresponsible gunmen were behind the killings in every village.
