KABUL (Pajhwok): A new doctor for OPD services has been appointed at the basic health centre (BHC) in the Chaparhar district of eastern Nangarhar province to improve the provision of health services in the area.

Chaparhar district is one of the most populated districts of Nangarhar province where in total eight (8) health clinics are operating for approximately 280,000 population.

Every day 100-150 patients visit Spin Jomat Basic Health Center (BHC), which is providing health facilities to 12,220 populations pertaining to this clinic.

Most of the patients come from very far away areas and most of the patients are over aged men and women and children.

The main and serious issue that has been identified during the Community Based Monitoring was the absence of a medical doctor.

There was a doctor in the clinic structure and was recruited but he was not able to present every day to the clinic for OPD and patient treatment.

“My sister was sick and I brought him to the Spin Jomat BHC for a medical check-up and treatment, we came to the clinic on foot from a very far away area. When we reached the clinic there was no doctor”, said Norulhuda, a resident of the district.

The above issue has been shared with the provincial and district health sector officials by the District Social Accountability Network established by Humanitarian Assistance Empowerment Organization (HAEO) under the Anti-Corruption Grants Program of UNDP supported by the Royal Danish Embassy.

As a result of the regular social monitoring from health facilities and sharing issues with health officials, the above mentioned issue has been resolved.

A new doctor has been recruited who regularly attends the job and is committed to punctuality. The new doctor is now coming and leaving on time. Patients who come to the clinic are being treated and provided with appropriate facilities.

Sahar Gul, a resident of the district and a member of the District Social Accountability Network, said: “If we continue the Community Based Monitoring of health facilities, the remaining issues that existed in other clinics will also be resolved accordingly.
