KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance on Tuesday said scrap exports to neighbouring countries had been banned and a 10 percent tax on the export of domestically-produced steel waived off.
In view of the economic situation in the country, the ministry said it had decided to allow the export of steel produced at home without any tax.
In line with the decision, a statement from MoF said, 1,000 tonnes of steel would be exported monthly to Pakistan at a rate of more than $900 per tonne.
Afghanistan exports scrap to neighbouring countries at a cost of $300 a tonne. But a ban has now been imposed on scrap exports.
Investors could export domestically produced steel to other countries without any problem, the ministry explained.
Exports played a key role in the economic growth of a country and paved the way for increasing domestic production, it added.
MoF affirmed the government’s commitment to boosting exports and reducing reliance on imports.
