KABUL (Pajhwok): Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov on Saturday said Moscow’s military action in Ukraine had no impact on Russian citizens in Afghanistan and their diplomatic mission was in close coordination with Afghan officials in this regard.
When asked about the condition of Russian citizens in Afghanistan in the post-Ukraine conflict he said: “Defending the rights of Russian citizens is our top priority, a small number of Russian citizens are in Afghanistan at this time and facing no problems in their daily life.”
He said Russia was closely watching the situation in Afghanistan and the response of its leadership and people to the Ukraine conflict.
“In case of any discrimination to our citizens, we will quickly react and will not stay silent to defend the rights of our citizens. We will not leave our citizens alone,” the Russian envoy added.
Zhirnov said the Russian embassy was in contact with its citizens in Afghanistan and the embassy doors were open for them.
According to the Russian embassy information, after the political change in Afghanistan last year, some Russian nationals left Afghanistan.
The Russian Embassy did not say how many Russian citizens are still living in Afghanistan.
