US, Pakistan confer on situation in Afghanistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The United States and Pakistan have wrapped up security-level talks, covering Afghanistan and other issues, in Washington.

The two sides completed their security dialogue days ahead of a meeting between their foreign policy chiefs in New York, a Pakistani newspaper reported on Thursday.

During his three-day visit to the US, Inter-Services Intelligence Director-General Gen Nadeem Anjum met senior security officials, including National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and CIA Director William J. Burns.

The meetings are believed to have focused on bilateral security concerns and the situation in Afghanistan, Dawn reported.

The US thinks that Pakistan can help stabilise the war-torn country, according to the newspaper, which did not give further details of the discussions.
