ZARANJ (Pajhwok): SameeraNahtani is one of the thousands of Afghan women in southwestern Nimroz province who lost her husband in the past conflict and has been looking after her family since years.
She sews traditional Nimroz clothes --- ZegapdanBalochi --- and earns livelihood for her six-member family. She teaches this skill to her three daughters as well.
Hailing from the Anardara district of Farah province, Sameera currently lives in the Masoumabad area of Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province.
She is the mother of two sons and three daughters and as a result of war and conflict she was brought up illiterate.
Nahtani said her family migrated to Iran during the past conflict and she was married in Iran when she was 15 with RahmanHashami.
She said her husband was a military service-member and seven years ago he was injured and then succumbed to his wounds during a conflict in Anardara district.
She said the conflict took away everything from her and she was left alone with a mountain of trouble and problems.
She said five hours daily and sometimes in the night she works. From her childhood Nahtani said she was interested in sewing clothes and now that she was looking after her family, she had adopted sewing clothes as her professional.
Fatima Jafari, Sameera’s neighbor, said: “Sameera is kind and a hard working lady. She is struggling economically but she is still patient.”
It is worth mentioning that decades of conflict in the country left thousands of women widowed who are now struggling economically.
