PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistani tribespeople rallied for the reopening of trade routes with Afghanistan, asking the government to honour its commitment.
Members of the Khogakhel tribe and Mohmand Wolesi Jirga rallied on Saturday outside the Peshawar Press Club for the reopening of the trade routes.
The protesters chanted slogans in favour of their demands, with speakers saying the tribespeople had rendered sacrifices for the restoration of peace in the country.
Led by Malik Ziarat Gul and Roohullah, the demonstrators said the government recently installed a barbed wire, dividing Baizai and Khogakhel tribes.
Urging the prime minister and the army chief to help reopen Anargi and Gorsal trade routes, they hoped such a step would spur the local economy and create jobs for the people.
They alleged promises held out to the tribesmen in the past with regard to the reopening of the trade routes had not been kept.
