GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A blind young man — a Quran memoriser — teaches hundreds of religious students online the holy book’s recitation and pronunciation.
Ehsanullah Sidiqi, 20, is a resident of the Qala-i-Naw village of the Khwaja Omari district of southern Ghazni province.
Sidiqi told Pajhwok Afghan News he studied up to sixth grade at a school in his village before graduating from a higher secondary school for the blind.
After passing the 12th grade, the hafiz received religious education for four years. Currently, he is teaching 800 students.
Sidiqi teaches them the Holy Quran via WhatsApp and Telegram for free. But some of his students living abroad occasionally help the teacher.
Having authored two books on the phonetics and virtues of the Quran, he is preparing to publish them.
The Quran memoriser promised providing more services to the people if he received support from the government.
Sidiqi’s sister Massouda, who is also blind has memorised at least 20 chapters of the Quran. Massouda, a 12th grader, has secured the second position in her class.
She urged all visually-impaired people and others with disabilities not to lose hope and strive to realise their dreams.
The father of these two blind told Pajhwok he had struggled a lot in bringing up his children and educating them.
According to local officials, about 150 blind people are currently studying at the special school for the blind in Ghazni.
