PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Pictures and videos of a helicopter are making rounds on social media, claiming that a high level government official flied his wife from his father in law’s home in Logar province to Khost province, but the government rejected the claim.

The videos show the helicopter is landed on a farmland and it flies after some people embark it. The video appeared to be recorded on the mobile phone by one of the many spectators.

Social media users claimed the video was shoot in Logar’s Baraki Barak district where a senior military official from Khost province flew to his father-in-law’s house on a MoD helicopter and took his wife to Khost by  the helicopter.

Residents of Logar province also said the MoD helicopter was used for private purpose.

Abdul Wahid, a resident of Barki Barak district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the MoD helicopter landed yesterday at about 2pm in Shah Mazar area of the district and took off after 20 minutes.

He said later it became known that a senior military official had arrived at his father in law’s home to take his wife home in the aircraft.

He said the military official wed two months ago and the bride had arrived her father’s home for a week.

He said the official had misused the helicopter and the matter should be investigated.

Another resident, Ahmad Zubair, said no one had the right to misuse the government’s treasury and such officials should be punished.

Pajhwok tried to take the view of the provincial officials but none appeared for talks.

However, a reliable government source confirmed to Pajhwok that the MoD helicopter had been used for a private purpose. He did not say who used the helicopter.

“The military official in Khost province has committed a mistake, the leaders are aware about the incident and he will be soon arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.”

But Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, a spokesman for the caretaker government, said it was untrue that a government official had flown his wife from Logar to Khost by helicopter.

“We investigated the issue and found that no such incident has happened in Logar. It is propaganda and we strongly reject it.”
