PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has renewed its call for global engagement with the interim Afghan government on key issues, including the current humanitarian situation.
Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq issued the call while addressing the Tashkent, conference on Tuesday.
He underlined the need for inclusivity, respect for human rights, continued humanitarian assistance and unfreezing of Afghanistan’s foreign reserves.
“Our efforts must be multi-directional; we cannot pursue one (of these goals) at the expense of others. This would be neither practical nor desirable,” he remarked.
Sadiq believed the Taliban should take more demonstrable actions on the issue of girls’ education. “We believe in the right to education for everyone as a fundamental human right.”
With regard to the imperative of regional connectivity, the envoy reiterated Pakistan’s offer to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.
“Another project of critical importance to enhance connectivity in our region is the trans-Afghan railway project …”
The release of Afghanistan’s foreign reserves was vital to the revival of the country’s economy, insisted the special representative.
“Therefore, we will continue to urge the international community to ensure the right of the Afghan people is delivered to them.”
