MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Health officials say positive Covid-19 cases have increased in northern Faryab province because most residents do not take the disease seriously.

Dr. Mohammad Zaman Azimi, director of Covid-19 hospital, expressed grave concern about the shortage of staff and limited services at the hospital and said positive cases had increased as they recorded 10 to 15 positive cases daily.

Dr. Azimi said during the previous government, the Covid-19 hospital had 40 beds and 160 staff and in 13 districts two-member vaccination teams had been on duty and the diagnosis center had been operating in Andkhoi district, but after the change in political system, activities of the Covid-19 hospital were suspended and the vaccination teams sacked.

Despite lack of fund, he said, the provincial Covid-19 hospital resumed activities with 10 beds and 27 staff but it was said that the hospital would be converted to 5-bed facility.

He assured the people that the hospital was fully equipped with machines, oxygen and medical staff was available, but they were in urgent need of financial support and improvement of the hospital and international organizations’ support was also needed.

Mohabatullah, a member of the Faryab Public Health Center for diagnosis of Covid-19, said that people were careless and did not believing in the disease and still considered the dangerous infection a joke.

He said positive Covid-19 cases had recently increased again in this province as 40-50 samples were tested daily in the center and about 15 samples were tested positive.

Feroz Bashash, one of the residents of Maimana, said he believed that Covid-19 like other diseases existed, but it was not as dangerous as advertised.

He added when Covid-19 was initially spreading, most profit-seeking companies and economic mafia circles launched negative advertisements to sell their medical products.

Abdul Rasoul, a shopkeeper, said he did not believe in Covid-19 at all. When the disease was spreading, he did not use a mask and trusted in Allah (swt).

Eng. Ahmad Khal Tanin, another resident of Maimana, said he and his whole family experienced Covid-19 at least once and he raised his morale and immunity contrary to the widespread media propaganda about the deaths of those infected. He said he and his family received the Covid-19 vaccine and it was fruitful.
