FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): At least 70,000 children have been deprived of education in remote areas of western Farah province due to lack of teachers, the Education Department head said on Tuesday.
Maulvi Akhtar Mohammad Zaeem, director of education, told Pajhwok Afghan News around 70,000 children were deprived of education in remote areas of the province, especially in Bala Bolok, Khak-i-Safid and Bakwa districts for the past six years.
He said the issue had been shared with the leadership of the Ministry of Education which had promised to address the issue.
“We face a shortage of 1,000 teachers in the province, 250 teachers were hired via an exam and the process to hire more is underway.”
Abdul Aziz, a resident of Gulistan district, told Pajhwok: “No attention has been paid to the education of our children in the past 20 years.” He urged the government to pay serious heed to this issue and address it.
Abdul Wajid Hanif, a teacher in Farah University, said Afghanistan needed education more than any other country of the world and the government must pay attention to the sector.
