Balkh schools facing professional teachers, textbooks shortage

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): School students in northern Balkh province have complained against the lack of professional teachers and textbooks saying these issues hampered their education.

They stressed the issue of professional teachers’ shortage and text books should be resolved in order to promote and strengthen education system.

Nadim, a 7^th class student of Bakhtar High School in Mazar-i-Sharif, said due to the lack of textbook he did not study properly this year.

He said they faced the shortage of all books special applied sciences books — Physics, Chemistry, Algebra.

Ferdos is another student who complained against the lack of books and professional teachers in his school.

He asked the government to arrange textbooks for them and pay attention to the appointment of professional teachers.

Saiar, 14, is another student who said: “My father was cancer and he died, I cannot afford to buy books and the school did not give me all books.”

Tawhidullah, a student from the Turabi High School, said that the lack of books and professional teacher hampered education system.

“When we don’t have professional teachers and textbooks then how would we learn the lessons,” he questioned.

Some Balkh teachers also complained against the lack of professional teachers and textbooks.

Azeem Ziae, one of the Bakhtar High School teacher, said most schools facing the shortage of teachers.

He added some professional teachers of social sciences are teaching applied sciences.

He added most students are economically not sound and they could not purchase text books from the market.

Education Expert Zabihullah Shinwari told Pajhwok Afghan News the presence of text books and professional teachers was vital for students.

“Students should have professional teacher, educational material, school infrastructure. If one of them is missing they cannot properly study.”

Education Director Mawlavi Abdul Jalil Shaheed, said the lack of professional teachers and textbooks is a nationwide issued.

He said government strived to provide around 27 million books to schools in the northern part of the country in order to resolve their problems.

This comes that some students in other part of the country also complained against the lack text books and professional teachers.
