Macroryan consumers get digital electricity meters

KABUL (Pajhwok): As part of reforms in the electricity supply process, the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) has decided to install digital electricity meters to consumers in the Macoryan blocks of capital Kabul.

The process will be kicked off from the Macroryan Blocks of capital Kabul.

DABS Kabul Branch Head Hikmatullah Akhundzada said past government failed to install digital electricity meters to consumers in Macroryan blocks.

He said consumers in Macroryan needed 23MW electricity and 70 percent of this electricity was lost due to analog meters.

Keeping in mind this problem, he said the DABS decided to convert all analog meters to digital metres.

He said of total 10,000 consumers, 8,800 used analog meters while the remaining 1,200 were using digital metres.

Referring to the electricity shortage, he said electricity from Uzbekistan was supplied to consumers in Kabul, adding that Uzbekistan produced electricity from gas and during cold weather this process incurred technical issues due to which there was electricity shortage.

He said the DABS was in contact with officials in Uzbekistan and they strived to resolve this issue.

DABS Marketing Head Mawlavi Abdul Rahman said that electricity meters in Macroryan area were too old and wasted electricity.

He said the move would prevent technical issues as well as eradicate financial corruption.
