KABUL (Pajhwok) UN Special Coordinator and Independent Assessor Feridun Hadi Sinirlioglu has said that the international community was eager to improve engagement with the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA), according to a statement on Friday.

He expressed the view during a meeting with acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Muttaqi said: “In the past years, the problem was that foreign reporters could not understand the sensitivities of our country, but now there is hope based on your extensive experience, you will be able to bring the Afghan government & the international community closer by reflecting our achievements & the demands of our people.”

Feridun said: “It has been a short period since I have been appointed as an Independent Assessor of the UN during which I have held talks with various member countries, & I feel that the international community is eager to improve engagement with the Islamic Emirate as the war has ended, peace & stability have returned, corruption has ended, & important achievements have been made, especially in the field of security.”

“Also, with its strategic location, Afghanistan can play an important role in the implementation of major regional projects, therefore, stability in Afghanistan is vital & no one seeks conflict. Despite all these, the international community has some concerns which should not be ignored. Pointing to achievements, FM Muttaqi said that previous killings & oppression are replaced with peace & stability.”

“Islamic rights of women are ensured, a conducive environment is provided for implementation of projects, & all achievements in the areas of security & narcotics have been without any foreign support. On the other hand, Afghans have only seen collective punishment, sanctions, demands & condemnations from foreigners instead of fulfillment of their own obligations. In the end, it was stressed that the discussions on finding solutions to the issues should be continued & reports regarding Afghanistan should reflect ground realities.”
