PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): More than 120 Afghan nationals have been arrested for staying in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi without valid travel documents over the past 24 hours, police say.
At least 123 Afghans were taken into custody on Saturday and Sunday when police conducted raids and checked documents of suspected immigrants in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
The arrests were made in Ferozabad, Sukkan, District East, Mobina Town and Malir areas, police officials said. Cases have been filed against the detainees under the Foreigners Act.
ARY News reported 45 illegal Afghan nationals were detained in different areas of Korangi district, 18 in East District, 34 from West District, 9 by City Police, 14 in Malir District and two by Defence Police.
Separately, 60 Afghan citizens were held in an ongoing campaign against drug cultivation in Balochistan, Information Minister Jan Achakzai told reporters in Karachi.
“We want to make Balochistan an international investment hub. We are also addressing the complaints regarding the law and order situation,” he added.
