KABUL (Pajhwok): Isolating Afghanistan offers no solution and the world should engage the interim government in Kabul, suggests a Qatari diplomat.
Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said his country had been calling over the past two years for global engagement with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Attempts at isolating the IEA and waging a war on them had not worked, he said in an interview on Monday.
The conflict-devastated nation was important for Qatar, Ansari remarked, saying Doha had mediated between Afghanistan and other countries.
“We fully understand it is not easy for the international community to engage with the current government, but complete isolation is not the solution,” the spokesman insisted.
Speaking to Al-Monitor news, Ansari recalled the Qatari foreign minister and the Islamic Emirate leader had conferred on a wide range of issues, including women's right to work and education.
