Library opened in Takhar to promote Uzbek language

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Some cultural activists in northern Takhar province have opened a library during the unveiling ceremony of Ketab-i-Khamsa of Amir Ali Shernawae and Qara Kozlarim of Mohammad Alam Kohkan to strengthen Uzbeki language.

Safiullah Shahin, a university teacher and one of the library founders, told Pajhwok Afghan News the purpose behind the foundation of this library by the name of Amir Sher Ali Nawae was to promote Uzbek language in different segment of society.

He said: “The goal is to improve capacity and promote the Uzbek language among young people, We created this library by collecting more than 200 volumes of books in Uzbek language and with the encouragement of some intellectuals.”

He said the students of Uzbek language department of Takhar University could get full advantage of this library.

Dr. Karimullah Oyagh, another cultural activist, said: “A large number of Uzbeks live in Takhar, but no effort has been made to enrich this language, now that this library has been created, it is a good move.”

Nooruddin Qaleech Baig, head or cultural and tourism section at the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, said the current government is committed to support the cultural society and will support any actions of culturists and poets to enrich language and literature.
