ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi hopes Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s visit will strengthen ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A delegation headed by Rehman, which arrived in Kabul on Sunday, met Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir and other members of the cabinet.

Muttaqi briefed the delegation on the economic, political and security situation in Afghanistan, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

Talking to reporters, Muttaqi said Fazlur Rehman had an important role in the Pakistani politics. He hoped the JUI-F leader’s trip would strengthen ties between Kabul and Islamabad.

Muttaqi also hoped the trip would yield good results for the people of both countries in terms of peace, tranquility and economic stability.

He added: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) desired cordial relations with all neighbours. Now that security has been ensured in Afghanistan, we want peace in the whole region.”

In response to a question, he said Rehman was a respected politician in the region. He was confident the delegation would convey a positive message from Kabul to Islamabad and help resolve the existing problems between the two sides.
