PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Education Department in northern Baghlan province says 271 seminaries have been established this year and more than 10,000 students, including girls, are enrolled there.
Mohammad Noor Azizi, director of education, told Pajhwok Afghan News in an exclusive interview that 43 religious schools existed in the province during the previous regime. However, the number has now surged to 314.
He said during the ongoing year, 271 local seminaries were established and 10,041 students, including 1,200 girls, were busy studying there.
The director linked the uptick in the number of seminaries to stability in the country. Previously, he said, people would send their children to neighbouring countries due to insecurity at home.
Compared to the past, he noted, there had been a significant improvement in madrasa education. Four people had been appointed in each district for standardisation and monitoring, Azizi concluded.
