KABUL (Pajhwok): The High Commission for Counter-Narcotics (HCCN) has held its inaugural meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Maulvi Abdul Kabir.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace (Arg) here on Saturday, the deputy prime minister’s office wrote on X.
During the meeting, Maulvi Kabir emphasised that narcotics posed a significant threat not only to Afghanistan but to humanity as a whole.
He highlighted the challenges faced due to lack of facilities and equipment in combating narcotics and stressed the need for global cooperation.
Kabir also called for the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets and for providing farmers with alternative livelihoods.
Acting Minister of Defence Maulvi Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid assured that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s army was prepared to tackle the narcotics issue.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi underlined the need to address not only narcotics but also human trafficking and other illegal practices.
He pointed out that these issues not only harmed Afghan youth but also jeopardised Afghanistan’s international relations.
