GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched on two developments projects estimated to cost 16 million afghanis in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Tuesday.
Ghazni’s mayor Maulvi Mohammad Nabi Hamza told a ceremony in this regard the projects included construction of a park on 11,773 metres of land and a 636-meter retaining wall in Ghazni city, the provincial capital.
Funded by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the projects would account for 16 million afghanis, he said.
He added about 200 people daily worked on the projects against wages.
He added: "We are committed to creating jobs for the people, to strengthening the economy of the people, and we are also working to add more to the beauty of the city along with urban services."
On the other hand, residents of Ghazni were also happy with the implementation of these projects.
Javed Ahmed, a tribal elder of the provincial capital, told Pajhwok that building a park was a necessity as there was no park in the area.
Naqib, another resident, said floods always caused financial losses to people every year, but the construction of this wall will prevent floods.
Some other residents of Ghazni urged the government to implement more such projects in other areas of the province.
