Govt should increase support for culturists: Badakhshaan huddle

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A number of culturists in northeastern Badakhshan province say cultural activities have improved compared to past years and the government should increase its support to culturists.

A poem titled “Char Soie Raswaiee” written by a young Habib Yamganpoor was unveiled during a ceremony by Information and Culture Department in Faizabad city today.

Yamganpoor said his work reflected the pain and suffering of Afghans and migrants in the form of poetry and verse.

According to the writer, his published work contains 30 pieces of poetry in form of quatrain, ghazal and makhmus and another work is written and ready for publication, which tells the story of the bitter life of Afghan migrants living illegally in other countries.

He asked Information and Culture Department to support young culturists spiritually and financially.

In this ceremony, Rasooli, another culturist, explained the cultural situation had improved compared to the past and youths were interested in reading books, setting up poetry session and literary-cultural programs, including the unveiling of books and poetic works.

According to Dr. Abdul Qadir, another writer, they have attended some cultural activities and witnessed the launch of book reading competitions, poetry programs, and the unveiling of works in form of prose and verse, showing the improvement of cultural situation.

People’s and youths’ interest in reading, writing poems, compiling and preparing history and fiction books has surged, Sediqi Lalzad, a writer and poet said while expressing his pleasure with officials’ attention to cultural sector.

The culturists asked the Information and Culture department to support them financially in printing works so that they continue their activities with enthusiastically.

Meanwhile, Head of Culture and Art at the Department Mohammad Arif Farooqi explained the department had always tried to meet the wishes of cultural workers as much as possible.

While confirming improvement in literary and cultural activities, he said they had set up free educational centers, held book reading competitions among young people and arranged dozens of other cultural gatherings.

“The requests of authors to print their works have been discussed with the ministry and it is hoped that it will be handled.”
