KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Two families have reconciled through mediation of tribal elders and local officials, ending their 20-year-old enmity that has four lives in northern Kunduz province.
Agha Mir Naseri, a tribal elder, said they had so far resolved dozens of feuds between tribes. He said the families turned foes 20 years ago and four people were killed and a fifth injured as a result of their enmity.
“These two families promised to end enmity and a violator of the jirga’s decision has to pay five million afghanis in fine”.
The former foes welcomed tribal efforts and asked other people to reconcile and end their disputes.
Zabihullah, a member of one of the parties, said: “We ask people to shake hands with each other brotherly and end hostilities”
“We lost four family members and suffered colossal financial losses, we are happy that Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and tribal elders made peace between us”: Qudratullah, another party, added.
On the other hand, advisor at the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs Mohammad Ajan welcomed and supported such actions by tribal elders.
“We support tribal elders in reconciling hostile families and participate in their meetings”.
More than 200 feuds between families and tribes have been resolved so far through meditation in Kunduz in the past three years.
