KABUL (Pajhwok): The Kabul Municipality says construction work on the first phase of the Kabul-Logar highway has resumed, a project that will be completed in two years.
The first phase of the highway stretches from the Minar Nijat area of the capital to the Charkhab area of central Logar province.
Kabul Municipality Advisor on Cultural Affairs Niamatullah Barakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the construction work, which would account for 920 million afghanis, resumed yesterday.
He said the objective behind the project was to facilitate access to urban and transport infrastructure facilities.
In the first phase, of a seven-kilometre stretch of the 60-metre wide two-lane highway would be built in two years, Barakzai explained.
In a post on X, the municipality quoted its deputy chief for construction affairs Eng. Zamarak Aamir Yasir as saying the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) was previously responsible for implementing the road project, which was delayed for various reasons.
According to Aamir, as some parts of the highway are located in limits of the capital city, the Cabinet tasked the municipality with executing the project.
With the land acquisition process completed, the project was ready for implementation, Yasir added.
The Kabul-Logar highway is considered one of the important roads that links the southeastern parts of the country to the capital.
