KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan has condemned Israeli airstrikes in Syria, calling them a clear violation of Syria’s sovereignty.
Syrian media reports say Israeli warplanes carried out dozens of attacks across the country, including in the capital, Damascus.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said there were more than 100 strikes on military targets.
On Monday, the UN Security Council met to discuss the situation in the country following the downfall of President Bashar al-Assad, and said they will work on a statement in the coming days.
In a statement, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said: “We strongly condemn the Zionist regime’s continuous airstrikes on the sovereign territory of Syria and consider them a clear violation of Syria’s freedom and independence.”
The statement reads: “After the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, the Zionist aggressor regime has continued its brutal aggression on Syrian soil and bombed civilian areas in addition to a number of military installations and assets, causing heavy human and financial losses.”
The statement said Afghanistan supported independent government of the Syrian people and asked regional and international powers involved to allow the Syrian people to make their own independent and free choice regarding their future in order they could determine the fate of their country without any foreign pressure.
Two days ago, Tahrir al-Sham group entered Damascus and took over the government and the country’s former president, Bashar al-Assad fled to Moscow with his family.
