HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The TAPI gas pipeline project is advancing swiftly, with three kilometres of the pipeline already laid in Afghan territory, officials in western Herat province say.
Mohammad Murad Amanov, executive director of the project, provided an update on the progress during a meeting with the Herat governor.
Mufti Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, the governor’s spokesman, said a three-kilometre stretch of the pipeline had been laid so far, and work continued at a fast clip.
Governor Mullah Noor Ahmad Islamjar expressed hailed efforts by the officials concerned and promised his administration would offer full cooperation in stepping up the project's progress.
The 1,800 kilometres multi-billion dollars transnational gas pipeline spans 816 kilometres in Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand and Kandahar.
Originating from the Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan, the pipeline is designed to transfer 33 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
