Scores of civilians killed in Sudan’s strikes, shelling

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 56 people have been killed and 158 others wounded in fresh air raids and missile strikes in the Sudanese capital city of Khartoum, media reports said on Sunday.

According to the VOA, after months of wrangling over the political fate of the Rapid Support Force (RSF) personnel and their integration into the national army, fighting has been ongoing between Sudanese military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who leads the RSF, since April 15, 2023.

The fighting between the rival sides is still ongoing in Khartoum, northern parts of the capital and Omdurman city.

An official of the Sudanese health ministry told AFP at least 56 people were killed as a result of RSF strikes on a market in Omdurman.

One of the victims’ relative told AFP a missile hit a vegetable market, causing the heavy casualties.

Separately, two other civilians were killed and dozens wounded on the banks of Nile River, an area under RSF control, an official of the emergency authority said.

The RSF mostly uses drones but the Sudanese army has the support of the country’s air force against the force.

So far, tens of thousands of people have been killed in the fighting in Sudan while over 12 million others have been forced into displacement.

It is estimated that 150,000 people have been killed in the war.

A UN report says over 12 million Sudanese people have been displaced and two million others have migrated to other countries.
