PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Thirty new natural resources mines have been registered in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of central Logar province and some districts, an official said on Sunday.
Mawlavi Naqibullah Ahmad Furqani, head of the Logar Mines and Petroleum Department, told reporters that based on recent research and investigation 30 new mines have been registered out of which the scientific exploration of two mines had started.
According to officials, 11 precious stone mines had previously been identified in Logar province.
Furqani said that these mines included copper, chromite, nephrite, talc, asbestos, calcite, alabaster and a number of other important precious stone mines.
Forqani added that in the New Year, the mines of the province will be put up for bidding for legal extraction, which will also provide employment opportunities for a number of people.
The director of Logar Mines said that this year, they have received about 225 million afs in revenue from the mines of the province and have deposited it in the government treasury.
On the other hand, Shah Agha, a resident of Pul-e-Alam, told Pajhwok Afghan News that there are many mines in the province, the extraction of which will provide employment opportunities for the people and generate revenue for the government. This comes at a time when the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced last month that a cement production factory with a capacity of 400 tons is being built in the “Al-Tamor” area of Pul-e-Alam city, the capital of Logar province, at a cost of over 100 million afghanis.
