Fitrat: October 7 a dark day in Afghanistan’s history

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Hamdullah Fitrat says the United States invaded Afghanistan on October 7, 2001 and, after twenty years, the so-called super power concluded it had made a major mistake.

The US and NATO forces fought in Afghanistan for nearly two decades. Later, peace talks were held with IEA in Qatar, culminating in an agreement signed on February 29, 2020.

As per that accord, foreign forces withdrew from Afghanistan, the last US solider left Kabul airport on August 31, 2021 and IEA regained control of the country for a second time.

Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for IEA, said: “We call that day a dark day in Afghanistan’s history. It was a brutal invasion that caused the martyrdom, injury, displacement, imprisonment and exile of thousands of Afghans. The occupiers imposed poppet rule over Afghans for a full twenty years and only after twenty years did the Americans realise that their invasion of Afghanistan had been a major mistake.”

He added that the Americans learned that no matter how much force they deploy, they will ultimately be defeated by the Afghan people.

“We praise the jihad and struggle of the Afghan mujahid people for freedom; it was through their sacrifices and struggle that the occupiers were defeated and our country liberated from occupation,” he said.

He also said that the Islamic system now prevails across the country.
