ASQA returns 25-tonne shipment of low-quality batteries

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Standards and Quality Authority (ASQA) has returned a consignment of low-quality batteries weighing over 25 tonnes via the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi port in western Farah province.

In a statement, ASQA said the action was taken to safeguard domestic markets and protect consumer rights.

The statement did not name the exporting country but confirmed the shipment was sent back through the Sheikh Abu Nasr port.

ASQA added that assessment and quality control of construction materials at all ports are being carried out in a transparent, systematic and strict manner.

It stressed that no leniency would be shown toward substandard goods that could threaten citizens’ health and safety.

The authority urged all traders and importers to comply with domestic standards and take responsibility for ensuring a safe and high-quality market.
