Jalali, UNICEF chief stress expansion of health services in remote areas

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and UNICEF have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding healthcare services in remote areas and strengthening cooperation in vaccination, maternal and child healthcare, nutrition, and emergency medical services.

In a statement, the MoPH said Minister Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali met with Dr Tajuddin Oyewale, UNICEF representative for Afghanistan and his delegation in Kabul.

Discussions focused on improving healthcare delivery, expanding medical facilities in underserved areas, supporting vaccination programmes, conducting joint monitoring of health services, and enhancing broader cooperation in the sector.

Jalali said strengthening the healthcare system remained a key priority of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and that efforts were underway to ensure equitable and effective healthcare services across the country.

He also underscored the importance of international partners in supporting and developing Afghanistan’s healthcare system and called for the continuation of long-term cooperation.

Meanwhile, Oyewale briefed the minister on UNICEF’s ongoing activities and reaffirmed the organisation’s continued support for Afghanistan’s health sector.

He said UNICEF would maintain its technical and operational assistance in maternal and child healthcare, vaccination, nutrition and emergency health services.
