Afghan, Iranian officials stress expanding trade, investment cooperation

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) officials and an Iranian trade delegation led by the country’s ambassador to Kabul have called for expanding trade, boosting investment and strengthening private sector cooperation between the two neighbours.

In a statement, ACCI said its chief Sayed Karim Hashimi met Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Alireza Bigdeli, Mahmoud Siadat, head of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and their accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on expanding trade cooperation, developing investment opportunities and increasing economic exchanges between the two countries.

Hashimi said Afghanistan, with its natural resources, strategic transit location and investment potential, could offer favourable conditions for Iranian traders and investors.

For his part, Bigdeli, referring to longstanding bilateral ties, said the visit reflected Iran’s serious commitment to expanding economic and trade cooperation with Afghanistan.

He also stressed the importance of continued engagement between the private sectors of both countries.

Kamaluddin Tawhidi, head of the Afghanistan-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce, and Azarakhsh Hafizi, senior adviser to the chamber, spoke on behalf of Afghanistan.

Mahmoud Siadat, head of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce, and Hossein Mohammadian, head of the Export Development Commission of the Khorasan Razavi Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, also addressed the meeting.

Participants stressed the need to enhance trade relations, facilitate private sector cooperation, and make use of existing economic opportunities.

The statement added that both sides emphasized expanding trade ties and increasing Afghan exports to Iran, describing joint cooperation as essential for strengthening bilateral economic relations.
