KABUL (Pajhwok): US and Iranian officials have agreed on a framework aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries, lifting the US blockade on Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to media reports on Monday.

“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform at around 5:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Trump’s announcement came shortly after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country has served as a mediator in the talks, said an agreement had been reached early Monday, Reuters reported.

The memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday.

The full details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed. In a post on X, Sharif said the pact provides for the “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

Lebanon had been one of the most contentious issues during negotiations, as Israel and Hezbollah continued exchanging attacks despite repeated calls from Trump and other international leaders for a ceasefire in recent weeks.

In a statement, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said all military operations and hostilities on every front, including Lebanon, would cease permanently beginning Monday night.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said a broader agreement would be negotiated during a 60-day ceasefire period, including provisions for sanctions relief.

The future of Iran’s nuclear programme—another major point of contention—will also be addressed during the subsequent negotiations, sources previously told Reuters.

There was no immediate response from Israel, which has maintained that it was not a party to the US-Iran talks.
