KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran and the United States have concluded a round of indirect talks in Doha without clear progress toward a lasting agreement, focusing mainly on issues previously addressed in a temporary deal announced two weeks ago.

Sources familiar with the discussions said that negotiators from both sides spent two days focusing on maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the unfreezing of Iranian funds—key points under the interim agreement, Reuters reported.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the next round of talks will be held after funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is due to be buried on July 9.

The ministry said the Doha discussions made “positive progress” on implementing the agreement that halted recent hostilities and built on outcomes of a previous meeting in Switzerland.

US President Donald Trump said the talks showed progress on limiting Iran’s nuclear programme, calling the process “very good,” although sources said the nuclear issue was not discussed in detail.

US Vice President JD Vance said nuclear concerns would be addressed in future negotiations.

Qatari officials said both sides held separate meetings with mediators from Qatar and Pakistan.

Iran’s delegation head, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, said the talks had concluded, but neither side confirmed any breakthrough.

The initial agreement includes provisions to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route that had been disrupted during recent hostilities.
