KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 11 people were killed and 56 others wounded after Russia launched a missile and drone attack on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, on Monday, a media report said.
The attack took place early on Monday, killing 10 people in Kyiv and one in the surrounding region, Al Jazeera reported, quoting Ukrainian officials.
It said 46 people were wounded in the capital and another 10 in nearby areas.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said at least 15 buildings, including four in the historic Podil district, were damaged in the strikes. He added search and rescue operations were continuing and the death toll could rise.
The Ukrainian military said Russia launched 68 missiles and 351 drones during the overnight attack.
Ukrainian media reported thousands of residents took shelter in underground stations after air raid sirens sounded across the city.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned a day earlier that Russia might launch another large-scale attack before the upcoming NATO summit, where he is expected to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities said a Ukrainian attack on energy infrastructure near the city of Sevastopol in Crimea caused a temporary power outage.
