KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) and the Chamber of Industries and Mines (ACIM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint-stock company to pool the capital of traders, industrialists and investors and finance major projects.

According to a statement from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, the MoU was signed today (Tuesday) at the Government Media and Information Centre in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.

Speaking at the ceremony, Baradar said the establishment of the joint-stock company would play an important role in implementing major economic and infrastructure projects and promoting investment.

He said the initiative was an effort to create an organised and practical mechanism for supporting the country’s economic future.

The deputy prime minister said the private sector had an important role alongside the Islamic Emirate in promoting economic growth and could make significant contributions to increasing production, creating jobs, expanding exports and financing major projects.

He added that the company would pool the capital of traders, industrialists and investors under an organised, legal and transparent framework and use it jointly to finance major projects.

Baradar said the Islamic Emirate had created a secure environment for investors and industrialists and taken necessary measures to provide legal, administrative and economic facilities.

He said efforts were also underway to remove barriers to investment and simplify administrative procedures, while various facilities had been introduced to attract investment across different sectors.

He called on traders, industrialists and investors to contribute to Afghanistan’s economic development, combine their capacities and invest jointly in the country’s progress.

He also urged government officials to provide full cooperation to strengthen the private sector.

The statement said the ceremony concluded with the signing of the MoU between the two chambers to establish the joint-stock company, which is expected to create new investment opportunities for infrastructure projects across various sectors.
