KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), marking the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence Day, has said the country’s independence was achieved through the struggles and sacrifices of Afghans and urged young people and future generations to stand firmly against all forms of aggression and occupation.
In a statement, the IEA said that 107 years ago, on August 19 (Asad 28), the Afghan people, with what it described as divine assistance, forced the British Empire to recognize Afghanistan’s full independence following a “powerful jihad.”
It said Afghanistan’s authority over its foreign policy, which had been taken away by the British at the time, was restored to the Afghan people.
The IEA congratulated Afghans on the 107th anniversary of independence, saying the achievement was secured through the “jihad, sacrifices and selflessness” of Afghan fighters and that the Afghan people continue to take pride in and commemorate the victory.
The statement said that following independence, Afghans achieved two more major victories — first against the Soviet Union and later against the US occupation — describing them as major chapters of bravery and sacrifice in Afghan history.
“Defeating three of the world’s major powers within a century was first the grace and assistance of Allah Almighty, and then the result of the firm faith and courage of this valiant people, which they demonstrated in defending their religion and beliefs,” the statement said.
The IEA said it was now time for young people and future generations to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors and stand with firm determination against all forms of aggression and occupation.
The statement noted that Afghanistan was celebrating Independence Day four days after marking what it called “Victory Day” over the US occupation.
It urged Afghans to remain grateful to Allah (swt) for what it described as these great blessings, adhere firmly to Islamic Sharia and regard every success as a blessing and assistance from Allah.
